Not reading online news is working.

December 23, 2011

So generally a straight forward way to increase productivity is to reduce the time you spend on facebook, etc. Over the last few weeks I’ve made a conscious effort not to read news sites (in particular – Stuff.co.nz, which is the one that I usually read).
It’s easy to think that ‘because it’s news it’s alright to read it, I need to keep up with what’s going on’, but actually, a lot of what’s on the news really isn’t that important. If it is important, you’d probably hear about it anyway.

I do enjoy reading news papers though – and that is a more dedicated form of reading the news. You’ve dedicated some time to take off, relax, rather than having it eat into your productivity time.
